The web at night.
Done right.
Cinematic dark mode for every website — with per-site control,
real-time tuning, and deep optimization for Google Docs and Google Sheets.
Everything you need.
Nothing you don't.
Built for Safari. Designed to disappear into your workflow.
Your rules, per site.
Dark mode where you want it, off where you don't. Velvet remembers every site individually. One toggle — no global switch to fight with.
Tuned to your eyes.
Adjust Brightness, Contrast, and Color Temperature in real time — no reload. Set them once for every site, or give a single site its own values.
Inversion that looks good.
Velvet applies CSS filter inversion with hue correction, then counter-inverts images and video so they stay true. A natural-looking dark theme on most sites.
Follow the system. Or don't.
Turn on "Match system Dark Mode" for a site, and Velvet darkens it only while macOS is in dark mode. Or keep full manual control — it's up to you.
⌘⇧E. Done.
Toggle dark mode for the current site without touching the mouse. Fully customizable from the settings page. Works even when the popup is closed.
Zero bloat.
No frameworks. No trackers. No external servers. Pure JavaScript and CSS. It asks for storage, activeTab and access to all websites, because dark mode has to restyle the page in front of you. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Where it matters most.
Some sites need more than a filter. Velvet goes deeper.
Google Docs renders pages onto canvas tiles — a naive inversion breaks the whole thing. Velvet's dedicated engine darkens the page itself, keeps embedded images in their original colors, and gives you a bright cursor.
Frozen rows, charts, embedded images — Sheets is complex. Velvet's Sheets engine treats the grid and frozen panes on their own and keeps charts and images in their original colors.
Built and improved,
one version at a time.
The web looks better in the dark.
$2 one-time. No subscription. No data collected. Just dark mode that works.
