Velvet is a Safari Web Extension for macOS that applies dark mode to websites. We believe in collecting nothing and tracking no one.
Nothing. Velvet does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data, browsing history, or analytics. The extension runs entirely on your Mac.
Velvet uses Safari’s built-in browser.storage.local API to remember:
This data never leaves your computer. It is stored in Safari’s sandboxed extension storage, which is wiped when you uninstall the extension.
Velvet requests the following permissions:
activeTab — to apply dark mode to the page you are currently viewing.storage — to save your settings locally.<all_urls> (host permissions) — dark mode requires reading and modifying the page being displayed. Velvet only modifies CSS; it never reads form contents, passwords, or page text for any purpose other than rendering dark mode.Velvet does not connect to any server. It does not phone home. It does not check for updates outside of the App Store. The only network activity associated with the extension is whatever Safari itself does when loading the websites you visit.
Velvet uses no third-party SDKs, analytics frameworks, advertising networks, or tracking services.
Velvet is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
If this policy ever changes, we will update the date at the top and post the new version here. Substantive changes will be announced through the App Store update notes.
